Home » Evangeline Downs Race 4July 6, 2006Evangeline Downs Race 4Race 4 at Evangeline Downs features a mammoth fourteen-horse field. It’s a 7 furlong $17,000 claiming race for accredited Louisiana bred horses that are at least 4 years old. Also, the entire field has not won a race since January. Since the field is huge, the morning line odds are pretty hefty. The three expected favorites are Glad You Dance at 7-2, Fraserriverspell at 9-2 and Sauce Pecan at 5-1. Since this is a special race for LA bred horses, we need to realize that the race is basically a $4,000 claiming race. Any horse in the field can be claimed for $4,000. While Glad You Dance is expected to be in the money, the horse that might get the most attention is Fraserriverspell. Try saying that three times fast. Fraserriversspell is a six year old gelding. He has shown some ability at this level, especially with large fields. His last race was about one month ago. It was at this track and he finished second. The winner of that $5,000 N2Y claimer turned it on late and blew past the field. Fraserriversspell has not had any workouts since that race on June 7. His jockey will be K P LeBlanc, who has money finishes in 16% of his races. The trainer, Bourgeois Keith, has had his horses finish in the money 24% of the time at Evangeline Downs. At 9-2 the price on Fraserriversspell is pretty decent. The field has about four serious contenders in it. Keep your eye on Minttopull. He’s listed at 12-1 on the morning line, but he has the class to tear up this field. He’s a four year old. He’s been on a down trip, but he might be worth taking on your exotics.
