Home » Evangeline Downs Race 7July 12, 2006Evangeline Downs Race 7The seventh race at Evangeline Downs is 6 furlongs. It’s a $3,500 claiming race for fillies and mares that are at least three years old and have never won two races. There are fourteen possible horses in this field. It’s a traffic jam. The morning line favorite, at 3-1, is Popular Mystery. This three year old filly has shown some promise. She broke her maiden back on April 15 at Evangeline Downs in a $10,000 maiden race for fillies. Promise or not, I am not sold on this horse. She looks to have issues finishing races. She’s predominately run at one mile or more. He has just two races that were not one mile or more and she did not fare too well. It looks like if she is pushed hard early, she runs out of gas. I think she might need time to build up and that’s not going to work in a six furlong race—at least not usually. I am looking at Joanne Lacy for starters. She is a 7 year old mare in the 10 position. Six furlongs is right for her. The 40 days rest is good for her as well. She just might make a race of it. At 6-1, we can get a great price. I won’t go into to much detail, but she is the one for this race. Her last race was on June 1 at Evangeline Downs. In that $3,500 N2L claiming race, she battled early and took the lead. She gave it up in the end and finished second, losing by 2 1/2 lengths. This field doesn’t look overbearing. With potentially 14 horses going at it, I want some value for my bet. Joanne Lacy gives that value. Let’s hope she stays at 6-1. It’s unlikely, but anything can happen. One Response to “Evangeline Downs Race 7”Leave a Reply |

Joanne Lacy finished in third and paid $4.00.
Just like I told you, Popular Mystery was not a good horse to take. She never got it going and finished 11th in the race.
