Street Sense Trainer Says No to Belmont Stakes

Online Horse Betting

Well, it appears to be official now. The 139th running of the Belmont Stakes on June 9th, 2007 will be without Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

After the shocking loss at the Preakness Stakes, word began coming out that Street Sense would pass on the Belmont Stakes. However, nothing appeared to be concrete.

So, what’s next for Street Sense?

According to trainer Carl Nafzger, we can expect to see Street Sense run in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on August 25th, 2007 and at the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Monmouth Park on October 27th, 2007.

Could history be in the making?

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, but Street Sense could make horse racing history by winning the Travers Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Classic. It could happen.

And that’s perhaps why the move was made to pull Street Sense from the Belmont Stakes. Nafzger doesn’t want to empty Street Sense on a race that’s perhaps pointless. Their goals are clear and the Belmont Stakes just doesn’t factor into them.

Mark your calendars now. The Travers Stakes is going to be one to watch for sure.
